Vikingsholm, Emerald Bay
The Vikings never landed on Lake Tahoe, but you’ll feel certain they
did once you visit this very authentic replica of a Viking Castle. Open
in the summer months only, this 38 room fortress was built in the 1920s
by Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight on her property encompassing the head of Emerald
Bay and Fannette Island.
She spared no expense in making this Medieval
Viking fortress look and feel like the genuine article, from its four stone
fireplaces, to its dragon beams and right up to its thatched roof.
Something
like 200 craftspeople and builders labored away using detailed reference
materials, local stone and resources to create this fairytale dream home
for Mrs. Knight. It’s a delightful place to lose yourself in
the past.
