Early January Activities in Tahoe
This is a great time for a Tahoe vacation with mostly sunny skies predicted for Martin Luther King Weekend, the long 3 dayer, and a chance of snow Tuesday and
Wednesday.
Resorts and Towns’ Update: Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe recently unveiled its
new Winters Creek Lodge, which includes a new food court (serving up
paninis and wraps), Sky Bar, restrooms and deck seating.

Alpine Meadows – open, base depths 40 and 65 inches
Boreal Mountain – open, base depth 75 inches
Diamond Peak – open, base depths 24 and 36 inches
Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe – open, base depths 20 and 42 inches

Lake Tahoe’s Olympic Heritage Celebration continues through Sunday,
January 17, with a bevy of special events planned to commemorate the
region’s 50th anniversary of hosting the 1960 Winter Olympics.
Scheduled for this week are the Freestyle Moguls Competition, Women’s
Downhill Course Guided Tour, 1960 Historic Walking Tour, Figure
Skating Exhibition and Olympic Legends Gala.
Intermediate and advanced freestyle skiers and boarders can showcase
their most awesome tricks in a jam-style format at the Burton Jiblet
Stop at Diamond Peak Saturday, January 16 to win cash and other
prizes in the open division. Registration is 9 a.m. in the base lodge.
Enjoy the snow-filled backcountry on a Winter Camping Excursion with
the Tahoe Rim Trail Association the weekend of January 16-17. Led by
two experienced guides, this one-night trip emphasizes safety and
comfort, while teaching participants about winter travel methods and
hazards. The overnight is open to those 21 years and older and
limited to 12 participants. Cost is a donation.
Join Northstar-at-Tahoe every Tuesday (January 12, 19 and 26 this
month) for Turtleneck Tuesday now through the end of March on the
Village ice rink. Tunes will be cranking from 5-8 p.m. with
complimentary rink access and rentals available for $5 (free if you
bring your own skates.)
Don't forget that Presidents' Weekend is a long holiday weekend and you should begin booking your reservations now.
