Lake Tahoe Boat Week
Lake Tahoe’s Concours d’Elegance made its debut in 1972 as an informal gathering along the west shore of scenic Lake Tahoe with a handful of proud owners showing off their classic wooden craft. Now in its 38th year, this event,
presented by Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation, Inc., has become one of the most prestigious
vintage boat shows in the United States, offering the opportunity for the public and<
collectors alike to appreciate these classic treasures.
The 38th annual
Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance< , set for June 18-20 at the Sierra Boat Company in Carnelian Bay on Lake Tahoe’s North Shore, will provide the ideal Father’s Day experience as the whole family will enjoy a dockside view of more than 80 beautifully and meticulously restored antique and classic wood boats. The weekend-long event also features live music, vendor booths, raffles, and a variety of delicious food and beverage, with wooden boat rides added for Friday’s VIP Preview Day on June 18.
Many of the 100-plus vessels in the marina for this year’s three-day show at Sierra Boat
Company, Carnelian Bay, date back to the early 1900s, designed for the elite who had a
taste for the finer things in life. Today, they range in value from $25,000 to more than
$1,500,000.
Lakers and launches, runabouts, historic gentlemen’s racers, utility craft and more are
entered in 13 classes including a special “Marque” class which sets the theme of each
year’s show. A “Best of Class” has become a coveted award for owners who have
restored their boats to authentic standards of time, comparing them to a standard of
“as-new” showroom condition.
And the Concours d’Elegance is just part of Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation's 2010 Wooden Boat Week!
Beginning June 17 through June 23, there are more activities, boating and social,
including opening night dinner/dance, men’s grill, ladies’ luncheon and fashion show,
and fun Woodie Over-the-Bottom rally followed by a barbecue on the lawn of the historic<
Ehrman Mansion.
Each year, it is Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation’s goal to be able to realize a surplus from the
Concours and these events to carry out its mission of helping preserve the environment and
history of the Lake Tahoe basin.
You'll w ant to stay on the north shore for this event if you can find a place as they do sell out early. Start your search in Incline Village
