Snow is the News in Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe weather is the news. As of 3/8/2009 all Tahoe ski resorts are reporting new snow, yet again. Overall, skiing this season has had the best conditions due to the snow coming steadily since December. Heavenly Valley Mountaian Resort is reporting an 88" base with 28 lifts operating. Heavenly opened up their sky flyer last season to great accolades, so even if you don't ski, you may want ride this zip line thrill from the top to the bottom... it's incredible. Also on South Shore Kirkwood is reporting 140" base and 12 lifts operating. Go Kirkwood. This is where the locals go to ski!
North Lake Tahoe has a higher elevation so these resorts here usually get more snow. Squaw Valley is reporting 170" with 26 lifts operating. Northstar is much lower, but keeps getting snow and has a base of 41" with the entire mountain open. Boreal has a base of 102" with 9 lifts opening. and the locals favorite is Alpine Meadows with 106" and 8 lifts open.
For the families who want to ski, we suggest Diamond Peak as it is a much quieter mountain. Diamond Peak has 61" and all lifts open. Diamond Peak is a great place for families that ski and snowboard. Have fun
