Hiking in Lake Tahoe
There are few activities that are as much fun or as rewarding as being on a trail and hiking in Lake Tahoe. This is especially true in a scenic wonderland like Lake Tahoe.
Tahoe Rim Trail is one of the most famous hiking trails in America. At 165 miles long, the Tahoe Rim Trail was completed in September of 2001 nearly exclusively by volunteers, and is open year round although it's better suited to summer use from July to September. This trail is open not only to hikers but mountain bikers and horseback riders may also take advantage of this incredible trail. You can even become a member of the "165 Mile Club" by completing the entire trail!
There are almost too many trails to list, so your best bet is to visit a sporting goods store in town or one of the ski resorts to get maps and information. North and South Lake Tahoe feature a number of incredible
hiking trails that shouldn't be missed. Both are terrific resources for finding trails that are open during your visit as well as detailed maps that will help you get around. Here are a few
Lake Tahoe Hiking Trails which can get you started.
Alternatively, you might want to consider taking a mountain guide with you. They can add to the enjoyment by instructing you on proper techniques, as well as take you on trails that have particular highlights. Mountain Guides can also help keep you safe if a dangerous condition occurs.
